Yesterday, one of the greatest leader of Asia passed away. He is no other than Pak Harto. He is Indonesia's former president Suharto. He has his wrong doing and many other human right issue which still till today don't rest well with some Indonesian. However, he also had his fair share of good deeds and positive that contributed to ASEAN. He is a great man that brought at least a 7% annual growth to the economy of Indonesia for 10 straight years. For a country of that size, I think u can only look at China and India if you want to compare, US and the rest and sit aside and admire only.
Personally, to be able to command a big country like Indonesia in ASIA, he needs to be ruthless and tough. Only then can there be stability in this region. Asia is never going to Be like those westerner. We are different from them. Go back history of Asia countries, all great leader are tough and ruthless. Democracy don't rule in this part of the world. Those western are still trying to impose their ideology on us. Too bad but it will not happen any time soon.
Looking at Mr Suharto, he brought stability to Indonesia and indirectly to Asia. Indonesia being a very big country in term of people and size, need a leader, a strongman like him. Only then will there be stability and growth. I still believe the people of any country only ask for peace, stability, food and shelter. This is the most basic need of all mankind. Any Leader that can provide this should be given their due credit and honour after his passing. FORGIVE is a must for a leader like him but shouldn't FORGET about the misdeed that he had done. To err is human.
May he rest in Peace. Time will heal all the wrongdoing and he will leave his good name in History forever.
